Ads commonly utilize images, speakers, music, and text to convey information about the product and apply a persuasive message for the viewer or listener to take some kind of action. It is worth thinking outside the box to apply different types of elements to advertisements that can be uniquely remembered.
The use of scent in ads is commonly associated with perfume samples in magazines. However, what about using scent in a different way? Apply a scent to a bus station poster ad, a billboard, or in a magazine ad for non-perfume products. Think about how Subway bakes bread to draw people inside their stores. Abercrombie and Fitch spray their stores with a fragrance that they sell. Disneyland sprays vanilla scent in its Main Street area to add to the theming effects. All of these examples elicit an emotional feeling, a memory, and/or a desire for action in people. Think of the ways that you might be able to use smell as an advertisement (like Subway) or in an advertisement (like magazines).
